Join one of Canada’s Top 10 Charities of Impact. Indspire is a national Indigenous charity that invests in the education of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students, empowering individuals, strengthening communities, and building a stronger country for all.
Indspire is seeking a Senior Communications Advisor – French Language Strategy to provide organization-wide leadership for its national French-language communications. Reporting to the Vice President, Communications & Marketing, the Advisor will develop and implement a national strategy that strengthens Indspire’s relevance, visibility, and relationships with French-speaking audiences and communities across Canada.
The role is responsible for ensuring that French communications are strategically planned, culturally and regionally appropriate, and equivalent in quality and intent to Indspire’s English-language communications. The Advisor leads French translation and localization, establishes standards and quality-assurance processes, supports francophone media engagement, and builds relationships with French-speaking community, education, government and sector partners.
English is Indspire’s primary working language. The successful candidate must be fully bilingual, with exceptional professional fluency in spoken and written French and English, and must be able to advise, write, edit, translate and present effectively in both languages.
Key Responsibilities
National French-Language Communications Strategy
• Developing and leading a national French-language communications strategy aligned with Indspire’s 2026–2031 Strategic Plan, organizational priorities and brand.
• Assessing French-language audience needs, regional considerations, channel opportunities and organizational readiness, and translating findings into a phased implementation roadmap.
• Advising the Vice President and senior leadership on French-language positioning, communications priorities, reputational considerations and opportunities to strengthen Indspire’s national reach.
• Establishing objectives, standards, measures and reporting for French-language communications across Indspire’s programs, campaigns, events and corporate initiatives.
Translation, Localization & Language Quality
• Leading the translation, adaptation and localization of priority communications, including web content, media materials, campaigns, executive communications, reports, event materials, digital content and stakeholder communications.
• Ensuring French content reflects the intended meaning, tone, audience and cultural context rather than relying on literal translation.
• Creating and maintaining French-language terminology, editorial standards, style guidance, templates and quality-assurance processes for consistent organization-wide use.
• Reviewing and approving high-profile French-language materials and managing external translators or specialized language vendors when additional capacity is required.
• Supporting efficient bilingual workflows by advising teams on planning, timelines, source-content readiness and approvals.
Francophone Media Relations & Public Profile
• Developing and maintaining relationships with French-language journalists, editors, producers, outlets and sector influencers across Canada.
• Identifying proactive media opportunities that increase awareness of Indspire, Indigenous learners, Indspire Awards Laureates, research and organizational priorities among French-speaking audiences.
• Drafting and localizing French-language news releases, pitches, key messages, media statements, briefing materials and spokesperson supports.
• Coordinating French-language media responses and supporting bilingual spokesperson preparation, interviews and issues management.
• Monitoring French-language media coverage and emerging issues, providing timely analysis and recommendations to leadership.
Francophone Community & Stakeholder Relationships
• Building and strengthening relationships with francophone and bilingual community organizations, educational institutions, governments, Indigenous organizations and other strategic partners across Canada.
• Engaging French-speaking audiences and partners to understand regional priorities, communications preferences, barriers and opportunities for meaningful participation in Indspire’s work.
• Supporting outreach and communications that recognize the diversity of French-speaking communities, including francophone Indigenous communities and audiences in Quebec, Acadian, northern and other regional contexts.
• Representing Indspire in relevant bilingual or French-language meetings, networks and public-facing activities as required.
Collaboration, Measurement & Continuous Improvement
• Collaborating across Communications & Marketing and with program and development teams to integrate French-language planning at the outset of initiatives.
• Tracking performance, audience response, media reach and relationship development, and recommending improvements based on evidence and feedback.
• Building internal capacity by providing practical guidance and tools that improve bilingual communications planning and execution across Indspire.
Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, translation, French language studies or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and senior-level experience.
Language Requirements
• Full professional fluency in English and French is required, including advanced writing, editing, speaking and presentation skills in both languages.
• English may be the candidate’s primary language; however, French proficiency must be sufficient to independently produce, adapt and approve polished senior-level communications for francophone audiences.
• Demonstrated ability to localize content for different French-speaking audiences and regional contexts in Canada.
Skills & Experience
• Seven or more years of progressive experience in strategic communications, public relations, media relations, stakeholder engagement or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies for French-speaking or bilingual audiences at a national or multi-regional level.
• Substantial professional experience translating, adapting, writing and editing complex communications in French and English.
• Established understanding of French-language media in Canada and experience developing media relationships, pitches, statements and spokesperson materials.
• Experience building trusted relationships with community organizations, government, educational institutions or other external stakeholders.
• Excellent judgment, political acuity and ability to provide clear communications advice to senior leaders in complex or sensitive situations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, external vendors and time-sensitive deliverables in a remote, collaborative environment.
• Strong understanding of Indigenous Peoples, communities, histories and contemporary realities in Canada, and a commitment to strengths-based, respectful and distinctions-based communications.
• Experience in government or public-sector communications is considered an asset.
• Experience working with Indigenous organizations, communities, education or the charitable sector is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
• This is a remote position open to candidates residing anywhere in Canada.
• Occasional travel within Canada and work outside regular business hours may be required for events, media opportunities or urgent communications matters.
• The successful candidate must maintain reliable internet access and an appropriate remote-working environment.
