The Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) Program is a Government of Canada program that funds Indigenous organizations across the country to help First Nations, Inuit, Métis and urban Indigenous people get training and find work. Below you’ll find what ISET organizations offer, how to get started, and a directory of ISET service delivery organizations by province and territory.
What is the ISET Program?
ISET is run by Employment and Social Development Canada and replaced the Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) in 2019. Instead of delivering services itself, the government funds Indigenous service delivery organizations, such as First Nations, tribal councils, Inuit and Métis organizations and urban Indigenous organizations, to design and deliver employment and training services for their communities.
Because each organization designs its own programs, what’s available, and who is eligible, varies from place to place. The best first step is always to contact the organization that serves your community.
What ISET organizations can help with
Skills and job training
From essential skills like literacy and numeracy to more advanced training for in-demand jobs, including trades, safety tickets and certifications.
Support while you train
Many organizations offer wrap-around supports such as help with child care and transportation, so you can focus on finishing your training.
Job search and career planning
Help building a resume, preparing for interviews, choosing a career path and connecting with employers who are hiring.
