ABORIGINAL MOTHER CENTRE SOCIETY
The AMCS is a wrap around service that provides 16 transformational housing units for Aboriginal mothers at risk of imminent homelessness, and a 25-person daycare for children age 3 to 5 years old.
Currently we have openings for support workers in our 24/7 residential housing program. We are looking for part and full time, casual and permanent support workers.

Qualifications:
A diploma in Social Services or related field preferred
Minimum 2 years experience working in aboriginal focused community-based programs preferred.
Excellent communication, planning and facilitation, coaching and problem solving.
A food-safe certificate or willing to obtain.
Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development.

Job Summary:
Further information will be discussed within interview. Support Worker will also be required to assist throughout the program and centre as needed to:
• Welcome new families to Transformational Housing, orienting them to the housing program and informing them of the supports available, and policies that are applicable.
• Provide emotional support and crisis intervention to indigenous and/or at risk mothers and their children.
• Interact with families including observing behavior, following up with concerns from staff, residents and social workers.
• Navigate family emergencies in accordance with guidelines and reporting incidents to appropriate staff/management.
• Assist with facilitation of house meetings with residents to address issues arising from communal living.
• Obtain information and prepare reports or case histories.
• Assess individual’s relevant skills, strengths and developmental needs.
• Assist in the development of a wellness plan for each resident with goal setting and follow-up.
• Maintain and share up to date knowledge of Aboriginal focused programs and services.
• Maintain program statistics for the purpose of evaluation and research.
• Monitor building security and perform some janitorial duties.
• Diffuse volatile situations through methods such as non-crisis intervention techniques.
The ideal team member would:
• Self-identify as indigenous or possess a strong understanding of indigenous issues including the effects of intergenerational trauma.
• Be able to work independently.
• Be able to multitask and remain calm in adverse and or dynamic situations.
• Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
• Understand and maintain client/worker boundaries.
• Demonstrate abilities to work co-operatively and supportively in a fast paced and close team environment.

Pay: From $22.00-25.00 per hour plus wage enhancement [if applicable].
Schedule:
Shifts include AM 7:30-4 PM, PM 3:30-12AM, and Overnight 11:30 PM-8 AM.
8 hour shift
Day shift / Afternoon Shift / Overnight Shift
Tues – Saturday, Sunday – Thursday, Friday – Monday
Ability to commute/relocate:
Vancouver, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)
