Job description/duties: Responsible for conducting pre-drilling surveys, performing remedial troubleshooting, and providing active monitoring. The Senior Geotechnical Engineer also leads multidisciplinary teams and implements advanced monitoring and risk management protocols, ensuring that Canadian mining projects consistently meet or exceed global best practices. In addition, this position introduces advanced methods for excavation, support design, and seismic monitoring. The role drives innovation, enhances operational reliability, and reinforces Canada’s reputation as a leader in safe and sustainable mining. Key job duties include:
• Conducting underground geotechnical inspections, assessing requirements of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QAQC), including pre-feasibility geotechnical assessments;
• Engaging in hazard management and QAQC plans, update, and implementation;
• Data collection related to rock mass classification and conditions, amongst other geotechnical criteria;
• Proficiently utilizing various software for 3D stability analyses, ground support optimization and design, and model calibration based on geotechnical data;
• Ensuring that work is conducted safely and encouraging strict safety standards across the organization;
• Actively engaging with the design and implementation of new geotechnical standards, including relating to ground support, cable bolt plans, and rehabilitation plans;
• Delivering trainings to clients and colleagues;
• Communicating findings of investigations to operational and management teams;
• Daily and proactive reporting on seismic data analysis to operations;
• Conducting open pit inspections and radar monitoring; and
• Collaborating with team members and managers to address the engineering needs of the company and their clients.
Skills requirements:
• At least 10-years previous experience in a similar senior role in geomechanics and geotechnical engineering.
• Expertise across the lifecycle of small to major mining projects, including exploration, environmental permitting, construction, and exploitation of deposits for raw materials.
• Experience managing teams of local and expatriate engineers.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering software and technology, including GEM4D, MAP3D, Unwedge, RS2.
• Previous experience working on-site in mines, preferably in multiple, varied geographies.
• Postgraduate degree in geotechnical engineering.
• Advanced project management training, such as Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
• High proficiency in both written and verbal communication in English.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
• Ability to speak and write in Spanish and Portuguese language is an asset.

Working hours: Regular work schedule will be a rotation of 14 consecutive days of work followed immediately by 14 consecutive days off from work. Standard workday will be 12 hours and will include a 60-minute unpaid lunch break. No overtime included.
Role requirement: will have to travel to clients’ mining sites on a regular basis across the country. The role will be predominantly one based in Fly In-Fly Out conditions due to the remote and rural nature of geological mines. Will also be authorized to work remotely from home office when applicant is not on-site with a mining client and may be required to meet in downtown Toronto as well. We expect the applicant to initially set up their residence and home office in Southern Ontario.
