JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
Lead the planning, development and delivery of Indigenous outreach, training, and work experience programs that support BC Hydro’s workforce needs while increasing opportunities for Indigenous candidates. This includes defining program scope, budgets, timelines, resource requirements, implementation plans, and performance reporting.
Coordinate and oversee the Professional Pathway Program, ensuring a positive and supportive experience for participants and managers.
Monitor program outcomes, evaluate effectiveness and recommend enhancements to support participant success and organizational objectives.
Build and maintain strong working relationships across Human Resources, Indigenous Relations, Learning and Development, and other internal and external partners to identify workforce needs, training requirements, policy considerations, and innovative program solutions.
Apply a continuous improvement mindset to program design and delivery, identifying opportunities to enhance Indigenous employment, skills development, and capacity-building outcomes.
Lead and support change management across BC Hydro to promote awareness, alignment, and successful implementation of Indigenous employment and capacity-building programs.
Collaborate with Indigenous Relations, Indigenous knowledge holders, Elders, internal partners and subject matter experts to design and deliver cultural learning opportunities for employees that increase understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, perspectives and rights.
Provide leadership in the development and execution of Indigenous employee development initiatives, including mentorship, career planning, and leadership development programs that support the growth and success of Indigenous employees across BC Hydro.
Facilitate discussions, workshops, presentations and engagement activities, using strong communication skills to build understanding, collaboration, and support for program objectives.
Provide direction, coordination, and oversight to program Coordinators, contractors, and other resources as required. Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team environment while maintaining accountability for overall program outcomes.
Develop and deliver reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other materials for senior leadership, executives, and the Board of Directors.
Act as an ambassador for Indigenous employment and workforce development, representing BC Hydro internally and externally and promoting employment as a key pillar of Reconciliation.
Qualifications:
University degree in related discipline. Equivalent education and working experience may also be considered.
A minimum of five to seven years relevant experience in project or program management and a demonstrated ability to lead cross-organizational teams and consultants to implement strategic business solutions.
Candidates with a comprehensive understanding of the goals and perspectives of Indigenous people in BC and knowledge of First Nations issues as they relate to the energy industry is highly desirable.
Demonstrated proficiency in the following: knowledge and understanding of the importance in building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous Nations; cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity; strategic and tactical planning; analysis and critical thinking; creativity and innovation in problem solving.
Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively engage with a broad range of stakeholders, leadership and Indigenous communities.
Ability to hold confidential information and exercise sound judgment on sensitive issues.
