Job Title: Prevention Worker
Purpose of the Position
The Prevention Worker is responsible for providing culturally appropriate prevention-based services to children, youth, and families within the community. This role focuses on early intervention, crisis response, and family support programming, while incorporating traditional knowledge and practices. The Prevention Worker will assist in building strong, healthy family relationships and promoting community well-being through holistic, trauma-informed approaches.

Key Responsibilities
Service & Support
• Provide short-term support, intervention, and referral services to children, youth, and families.
• Respond to crises in a timely, compassionate, and culturally safe manner.
• Work one-on-one with clients to strengthen family connections and promote wellness.
Program Delivery & Community Engagement
• Develop, coordinate, and facilitate prevention programs and workshops focused on healthy lifestyles, cultural identity, and positive family development.
• Organize group activities and events that foster resilience and community connection.
• Engage community members in identifying needs and collaborate on strategies to address them.
Cultural & Traditional Integration
• Incorporate Anishinaabe teachings, values, and traditions in all aspects of service delivery.
• Support the inclusion of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural facilitators in prevention programming.
Administration & Reporting
• Maintain accurate client records, reports, and case notes in compliance with privacy and confidentiality policies.
• Assist in program evaluation and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
• Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and inter-agency collaborations as required.
Required Skills
• Diploma or degree in Social Services, Child & Youth Work, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children, youth, and families, preferably in a First Nation or social service setting.
• Strong understanding of intergenerational trauma, family violence, addictions, and other issues affecting Indigenous families.
• Excellent communication, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical practices Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills.
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel.
• Time management in managing multiple priorities.
• Professional, responsive and positive work attitude.
• Must provide an updated Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check
• Ontario’s Driver’s G License
