Job Description:
We are seeking a reliable and mechanically inclined Plant Equipment Mechanic to support the safe and efficient operation of equipment within our production facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing maintenance and repairs to ensure production equipment remains in optimal working condition. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, practical problem-solving skills, and a commitment to workplace safety, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced commercial bakery environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Read and interpret blueprints, equipment manuals, diagrams, and schematic drawings to determine installation, maintenance, and repair procedures.
• Install, align, dismantle, assemble, and relocate stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, including bakery production, packaging, conveyors, pumps, motors, and related systems.
• Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to identify wear, defects, irregular operation, and mechanical malfunctions.
• Diagnose equipment issues and adjust, repair, or replace defective mechanical components to restore proper operation.
• Install, troubleshoot, and maintain power transmission, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, and programmable control systems associated with industrial machinery.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, inspection, adjustment, and replacement of worn components.
• Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment as required.
• Operate hoisting and lifting equipment to position machinery and parts during installation, setup, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Operate machine tools, such as lathes and grinders, to fabricate or modify parts required for machinery maintenance and repair.
• Set up, adjust, and test machinery and production-line equipment to support different bakery products and production requirements.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized work environment by cleaning and maintaining machinery, tools, and maintenance areas in accordance with food safety, sanitation, and GMP requirements.
• Complete assigned work orders and maintain accurate maintenance records, including inspections, repairs, replacement parts, and equipment condition reports.
• Communicate with production personnel and maintenance management regarding equipment issues, preventive maintenance requirements, and recommended improvements.
• Follow lockout procedures, workplace health and safety requirements, food-safety standards, sanitation practices, and company maintenance policies.
• Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned.
Employment Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school and training courses or a vocational program in industrial machinery repair, millwrighting, mechanical maintenance, or a related field .
• Completion of a three- to four-year apprenticeship program in industrial mechanics or millwrighting, or a combination of more than five years of related work experience and industry courses in industrial machinery repair or millwrighting, is usually required to qualify for trade certification.
• Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Industrial mechanic (millwright), construction millwright, electrical, or another relevant trade certification is considered an asset.
• Previous experience in a food-manufacturing, bakery-production, warehouse, or similar industrial environment is considered an asset.
• Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area while following company policies, safety requirements, compliance procedures, and quality standards.
• Willingness to learn, develop new skills, and adapt to operational requirements.
• Availability to work scheduled shifts, including weekends.
