ParaMed is Canada’s Leading Home Health Care Services Provider for more than 50 years. Since 1974 ParaMed Home Health Care has been caring for people in their homes, offering a full range of home health care services including personal care, homemaking, therapy, and nursing services.
We are currently recruiting for the position of Personal Support Worker (PSW). Our PSWs provide essential support to patients in the community. Specific job duties include:
• Assist patients with activities of daily living including skin, hair, and oral care along with bathing, toileting, & peri-care
• Supply and empty bed pans
• Provide nutritious meals and snacks, including special diets, as determined by the care plan
• Feed or assist with feeding patients
• Record fluid intake and output
• Observe patients’ status and document any changes from their baseline
• Administer first aid in emergency situations within the scope of their competencies
• Assist in monitoring and tracking supplies
• Assist with the set-up and maintenance of traction equipment
• Clean equipment
• Advanced functions such as application of compression stockings, catheter care, use of mechanical lifts, and supporting patients through range of motion exercises as instructed by registered professionals (e.g., nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists)
• Provide basic housekeeping tasks including making patients’ beds and maintaining their rooms
• Provide companionship to help patients enjoy a better quality of life
Additional information:
• Job status: Full time (40 hours per week), permanent position.
• Schedule: One weekday off, every other weekend off
• Wage: Starting wage of $20.69/hour with increases up to $23.35/hour. Annual wage increases per collective agreement.

• Vacation: 4% of gross earnings
• Benefits: Per collective agreement and include extended medical and dental, disability, life insurance, paid mileage for travel between clients, and employee assistance program.
• Location of employment: The positions are based out of our business address 171-419 King Street W, Oshawa, Ontario, L1J 2H9, Canada with daily travel to various locations (patient’s homes) in the municipality of Durham.

Job requirements:
There are several ways to qualify as a Personal Support Worker:
• Personal Support Worker or Developmental Services Worker Certificate from an accredited school;
• Second year Nursing Students and/or internationally educated nurses; or
• International Healthcare Providers.
Previous related work experience is an asset but not required. CPR and Basic Life Support certifications are required but can be completed as part of the on-boarding process.
What else do I need to have to become a PSW with ParaMed?
• Willing to travel to see patients within your community (some locations require access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s licence)
• Ability to pass a criminal check (CPIC) with clear Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS)
• Ability to demonstrate compassion, tactful and thorough care for our patients and their families
