Volm’s patented produce bags combine polyethylene and mesh material to create an innovative packaging solution that allows for high-end graphics and brand exposure on the poly side, while offering more breathability for keeping produce fresh longer on the mesh side.
Volm is currently looking for six (6) Night Shift Wicketer Operators to join our team. You will be working at our Canadian headquarters located at 173 Garden Avenue, Brantford, Ontario, N3S 0A7.
This is a permanent, full-time position, based on 42 hours of work per week, with occasional overtime. You will be required to work 12-hour shifts (3 days one week, followed by 4 days the next). At this time, we are only looking for applicants to fill the night shift (6:30pm until 6:30am). Further information respecting the position can be found below.
Position
You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of Volm’s wicketed poly bag making machines according to production and quality specifications. Your duties will include the following:
• Perform machine set-up correctly and efficiently
• Operate wicketed poly bag making machines safely while maintaining minimum average production rates
• Maintain continuous operation of the machines as per posted schedules and written instructions
• Monitor machine operation to detect issues, and notify supervisor of any errors or malfunctions
• Participate in lean initiatives to increase efficiency and productivity while reducing waste, including implementing the quick change technique and coordinating the utilization of the oldest material first
• Conduct product quality control inspections, and record results in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
• Package products to order
• Prepare packages for shipment, including printing and affixing labels
• Perform quality testing procedures on packaged products, including the drop test, shake test, and seal quality test, and record results in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet
• Routinely inspect machines and perform general maintenance duties to maintain safety, production and quality levels
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who meets the following minimum requirements:
• Successful completion of secondary school
• At least six (6) months of experience as a machine operator. Preference given to applicants with experience working with food processing or packaging machinery.
• Able to work night shift (6:30pm until 6:30am)
• Able to work 12-hour shifts (3 days one week, followed by 4 days the next) – night shift only
• Able to work with little supervision.
• Basic math skills
• Basic computer knowledge, including familiarity with Microsoft Excel
• Basic ability to communicate in English
• Able to read, and follow oral and written instructions
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
• Able to meet the following physical requirements:
o Stand for extended periods of time (90% of the shift requires standing and walking)
o Lift up to 60lbs on a frequent basis
o Strong eye/hand/foot coordination
o Perform repetitive motions, including handling and grasping products and packaging
o Push, pull, squat, bend, or reach 10% of the workday
• Able to work in temperatures ranging from 60°F to 90°+ F degrees for extended periods (temperature varies by season and department where you will be assigned)
Compensation
We offer a generous compensation package, which includes:
• Wage: $24.25 to $25.57 per hour (based on 42 hours per week)
• Overtime paid after 44 hours per week
• Performance-based bonuses, potential RRSP incentives, and incremental raises in accordance with standard company policies
• 10 days of paid vacation per year, plus 4 days of paid personal days per year
• Extended medical, dental, and disability insurance available after 1 month
• Roundtrip transportation costs for out of province applicants
• Private health care insurance coverage for out of province applicants (equal to the Ontario provincial health insurance plan) until such a time that the applicant is eligible for Ontario provincial health insurance
