About the Hotel
Opening in summer 2026, the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Matagami, QC will be a 72-room, modern hotel designed for comfort and connection. Amenities will include a pool, fitness centre, complimentary breakfast area, and meeting space for local gatherings and business events. This Microtel will serve both local business and northern leisure travelers, reflecting the strength, warmth, and growth of Matagami and the Cree Nation region.
Your Opportunity
This is not a traditional hotel management role, it’s a legacy-building opportunity. As the opening General Manager, you’ll lead the pre-opening planning, recruitment, and culture-building for a hotel that will become a proud landmark in northern Quebec. From day one, you’ll work closely with MasterBUILT Hotels and Wyndham to bring this property to life—establishing standards, training your team, and preparing for a grand opening that celebrates both hospitality and community.

What You’ll Do
As part of the opening leadership team, you’ll have the opportunity to help shape the hotel’s personality and service culture from day one. You’ll have the support of a strong corporate team and autonomy to make decisions that fit the local market and community.
Responsibilities include:
• Lead all pre-opening activities including hiring, brand setup, operational readiness, and training.
• Partner with Cree and other Indigenous organizations to support local hiring, training, and business opportunities.
• Build a team culture rooted in customer service, respect, inclusion, and pride in local identity.
• Oversee and maintain all aspects of operations post-opening: guest experience, profitability, safety, and brand standards.
• Collaborate with MasterBUILT’s corporate support team on operations, sales, revenue management, marketing, human resources and financial/accounting strategic initiatives.
• Act as an ambassador for Matagami, representing the hotel with professionalism and heart.
• Develop relationships with local suppliers, businesses, and schools to integrate the hotel into the fabric of the community.
What You Bring
• 5+ years of progressive hospitality or leadership experience.
• Strong recruitment, training, and leadership skills—able to lead and coach a team from the ground up.
• A proven record of balancing guest satisfaction and financial performance.
• Community-minded with experience or interest in Indigenous relations and local partnerships.
• Previous experience with budgeting, forecasting, and operational decision-making.
• A hands-on, positive approach – the ability to roll up your sleeves and lead by example.
• Familiarity with Northern communities and the unique opportunities they offer.
