Home Support Worker – Special Needs Child

Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and experienced Home Support Worker to provide care and support for a child with special needs in a private household. The successful candidate will assist with daily living activities, personal care, meal preparation, household duties related to the child, and support the child’s physical, emotional, and developmental well-being in a safe and nurturing home environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide attentive care and supervision for a child with special needs in a private residence.
Assist with personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility as required.
Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks according to dietary needs.
Support the child’s daily routines, recreational activities, and developmental goals.
Assist with safe transportation and accompany the child to appointments, therapy sessions, school, or community activities when required.
Administer medication as directed by the employer or healthcare professionals.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for the child, including light housekeeping, laundry, and meal preparation related to the child’s care.
Observe and report changes in the child’s condition or behaviour to the employer.
Promote the child’s independence, dignity, and overall well-being.
Follow employer instructions and established care routines while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Experience
1 year to less than 2 years of experience in home support, caregiving, personal care, or a related field is preferred.
Experience supporting children or individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, or special needs is an asset.

Education Requirements
Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
Caregiver, Personal Support Worker (PSW), Early Childhood Education (ECE), Developmental Services Worker (DSW), or related training is an asset.
Credentials (Certificates, Licences, Courses, etc.)
First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate or equivalent caregiving training is an asset.
Criminal record check may be required.
Valid driver’s licence is an asset.

Work Setting and Conditions
Employer’s private residence.

Ability to assist with mobility and daily living activities when required.
