Summary:
Camp Manitou is a children’s summer camp that hosts approximately 600 campers and workers at the camp during the summer season (June to October). Camp Manitou’s kitchen, which provides all meals to campers and staff on a daily basis, is seeking experienced First Cooks to support the kitchen operations.
The First Cook plays a key role in the camp kitchen, ensuring high-quality meal preparation and smooth kitchen operations. This position is responsible for preparing meals, maintaining food safety standards, and assisting in leading and managing the kitchen team. The ideal candidate is experienced in food service, organized, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
Terms of the Position:
– Terms: Full-time, Seasonal position
o Start Date: June 13, 2026
o End Date: October 10, 2026
– Hours: 42 hours/week
– Wage: $22.70/hour
– Conditions of Work
o Scheduled six days per week (day, weekend)
o Must be able to handle heavy loads (lift up to 9kg) and stand for long periods of time

Skills and Experience Requirements:
– Education:
o High School Diploma or higher
– Minimum Experience Requirements:
o At least two years or more related cook experience
o Possess previous experience working in a high-volume (300 or more diners) kitchen, cafeteria or camp kitchen setting
– Knowledge:
o Demonstrate knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation procedures
– Personal Attributes:
o Possess a passion for cooking and providing nutritious meals in a camp environment
o Ability to work efficiently under pressure, in a fast paced environment and be able to adapt to changing meal requirements
o Demonstrate dependability
o Demonstrate excellent organization, teamwork and communication skills
Job Duties:
– Prepare and cook dishes and meals according to camp menus, ensuring food is fresh, well-balanced, and meets dietary requirements
– Follow all food safety regulations
– Inspect kitchen and food service areas and maintain a clean and organized kitchen
– Ensure proper food handling, storage and temperature control
– Assist in overseeing/supervising kitchen staff, providing direction and ensuring efficient meal service
– Work closely with the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager to follow and execute meal plans
– Monitor food inventory and assist with ordering supplies while minimizing waste
– Train and mentor junior kitchen staff and workers
– Adapt to changing needs and assist in other kitchen-related tasks as required
