EntrepreNorth is looking for a seasoned, strategic, and values-driven Finance Director to guide the financial health, growth, and accountability of our charitable organization. This is a senior leadership role that will help shape the future of EntrepreNorth as we continue our transition to becoming an independent charity. You’ll work closely with our Co-Leadership team, managers, and MakeWay during the transition period – providing timely financial insights and direction to help inform big-picture decisions.
In this role, you will lead all aspects of financial planning, management, and reporting. You’ll build and mentor a strong finance team, create systems and policies that strengthen our operations, and help ensure our work remains transparent, aligned, and sustainable. You’ll also serve as a trusted advisor who supports project budgeting, grant management, and organizational strategy, while regularly presenting updates and recommendations to leadership and our Board Finance Committee.
Your responsibilities will include overseeing full-cycle accounting and maintaining accurate general ledger records, charts of accounts, and internal documentation. You’ll manage payroll coordination, monthly close processes, and produce internal financial statements, variance reports, and cash-flow forecasts. You will also lead the preparation of financial reports for funders and partners, ensure we meet all reporting deadlines, and coordinate the annual external audit with care and precision. As a charity, compliance is essential – so you will ensure all CRA requirements, including the T3010, are met.
A portion of your work will support the Sinew Impact Fund, where you’ll help track loans and investments, monitor commitments and repayments, and contribute to developing internal tools that align with our impact measurement frameworks.
This role also includes improving financial systems, controls, and workflows to keep us organized, efficient, and transparent. You’ll help develop administrative policies, safeguard sensitive financial records, and stay up-to-date on nonprofit regulations – especially those relevant to Indigenous-led organizations and relational finance models.
We’re looking for someone who thinks strategically, pays close attention to detail, leads with empathy, and thrives in a collaborative, proactive environment. You should have strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and a deep commitment to Indigenous self-determination and community-led systems change.
To excel in this role, you bring a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or a related field; a CPA designation (with CAFM as an asset); and 3–6 years of senior financial management experience within the nonprofit or charitable sector. You understand accounting principles, budgeting, and financial analysis, and you have a track record of developing and supporting finance teams. Strong communication, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a commitment to upholding financial integrity.
It’s an added bonus if you have experience working with Indigenous communities, familiarity with relational or community-based finance models, experience with impact funds or investments, knowledge of Northern funding landscapes, or advanced skills with financial software.
We offer a competitive full-time salary, comprehensive employer-paid health, vision, and dental benefits (starting on day one), annual RRSP contributions, a $1500 yearly professional development budget, and a strong commitment to work–life balance. Our team enjoys flexible and remote work options, opportunities for Northern travel, 10 sick/personal days, four weeks of vacation, and a winter office closure – plus a supportive, innovative, and inclusive team culture.
