Inclusive Early Childhood and Behaviour Support Instructor
Job Summary:
The Inclusive Early Childhood and Behaviour Support Instructor works within a licensed child-care centre to integrate early-learning curriculum with specialized behaviour-support programming for children with developmental, behavioural, and communication needs.
The role bridges the skills of an Early Childhood Educator (NOC 42202) and an Instructor of Persons with Disabilities (NOC 42203) by combining program planning, applied behaviour-analysis techniques, and family collaboration to promote inclusion and independence.
This advanced position is ideal for an experienced ECE or ECE assistant seeking to apply behavioural-therapy and social-work principles in an early-years environment.
Main Duties:
Develop and implement individualized education and behaviour-support plans in collaboration with ECEs, therapists, and families.
Lead daily classroom activities that support children’s physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.
Observe, record, and analyze behavioural patterns using data-collection tools; assist in developing strategies for positive behaviour change.
Apply behaviour-analytic principles (e.g., reinforcement, prompting, shaping) under the guidance of a certified behaviour analyst or consultant.
Assess developmental progress and adapt curriculum materials and environmental supports accordingly.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists (speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, resource consultants) to integrate therapeutic goals into classroom practice.
Provide direct instruction in communication, self-help, and social-interaction skills to children with autism or other developmental differences.
Support children in developing self-regulation and peer-interaction skills in inclusive group settings.
Communicate daily observations, progress, and recommendations to families and team members.
Model inclusive, trauma-informed, and compassionate care practices for staff and families.
Qualifications:
Diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education, Behavioural Science, Developmental Services, Social Work, or a related field.
Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE) preferred.
Minimum 5-7 years of experience working in a licensed child-care or early-learning environment.
Demonstrated experience supporting children with autism or developmental disabilities.
Familiarity with Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), data collection, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
Excellent observation, documentation, and collaboration skills.
Current First Aid/CPR certification and clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
Employment Details:
Wage: $36.00 per hour
Hours: 30 per week (full-time, permanent)
Work Location: Weybourne School
Start Date: As soon as possible
The wage of $36/hour reflects the advanced dual nature of this position, combining licensed early-childhood education responsibilities (NOC 42202) with specialized behavioural-instruction duties (NOC 42203).
The incumbent applies professional-level skills in behaviour therapy, observation, and inclusive curriculum design under multidisciplinary supervision. This compensation aligns with upper-tier market rates for inclusion specialists and behaviour-support professionals in Ontario’s early-learning sector.
