Position Summary
The Community Health Nurse is responsible for providing a comprehensive range of public health and preventative health measures to clients in the K’ómoks First Nation community. This role involves supporting clients’ health and wellness through a proactive and holistic approach, delivering services that honor the cultural customs and traditions of the K’ómoks First Nation.
What you’ll do!
Healthcare Delivery
Provide care that meets the standards for Registered Nurses within the BC College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Apply nursing knowledge and critical thinking to plan, implement, and evaluate interventions for clients with acute, chronic, or palliative health care needs.
• Develop client-centered care plans and work with clients to set short and long-term health goals.
Maternal Child Health
• Coordinate Community Care and Home Care Programs to meet client needs, promoting family and community support.
• Pre and post natal support for families, along with ages and stages for childhood development advocacy.
Immunizations
• Provide immunizations and vaccinations to K’omoks community members through all stages of life.
• Be current in WHO recommendations as contagious viruses and diseases evolve.
Advocacy and Cultural Sensitivity
• Advocate for and use culturally relevant approaches when building relationships and providing nursing services.
• Partner with health authorities and other healthcare providers to enhance client care.
Program Coordination and Reporting
• Facilitate and manage foot care through a certified nurse.
• Complete and submit service delivery reports as required.
Community Engagement
• Conduct and lead information sessions for community members to address health concerns.
• Partner with organizations to support and care for homeless community members.
What you bring!
Educational Background
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
• Member in good standing with the College of BC Nursing Professionals (BCCNP).
• Current Basic Life Support, Level “C” certificate.
• First Aid & CPR certification.
• Immunization Certification.
Experience
• 2+ years of recent experience in public health nursing.
• 2+ years of Maternal Child Health nursing.
• Experience working in and with the Indigenous community preferred.
Skills and Abilities
• Strong planning, organizational, and time management skills.
• High level of self-awareness and emotional intelligence.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish working relationships with various stakeholders.
• Cultural sensitivity and awareness of First Nations governance and socio-historical events.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment and administer medications.
