The Marten Falls Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Economic Development Corporation is the senior executive responsible for shaping the community’s economic future. This role provides visionary leadership, drives enterprise growth, and ensures that all initiatives align with First Nation values, governance, and long‑term prosperity. The CEO will act as the architect of economic sovereignty, positioning the community as a regional leader in commerce, innovation, and sustainable development.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
Direct and oversee the various joint venture agreements, partnerships and other
business arrangements undertaken by MFFN Economic Development Corporation in
relation to the operation of the community‑owned businesses, ensuring profitability,
scalability, and operational excellence.
Directly oversees Ozhiitaah Developments LP operations while establishing strategic vision and ensuring effective reporting structures.
Establish governance frameworks, KPIs, and reporting systems for accountability to
the MFFN Economic Development Corporation Board.
Support and provide leadership and guidance in relation to MFFN efforts and
business plans designed to foster economic development for MFFN and its
members.
Define and execute a bold, multi‑year strategic plan that strengthens independence
and resilience.
Design and present the MFFN Economic Development Corporation goals and
strategic for approval.
Update the MFFN Economic Development Corporation Board regarding the MFFN
Economic Development Corporation’s and Ozhiitaah Developments LP progress in
reaching the approved goals and deploying the approved strategic plan.
Implement and execute capital and operating plans to support the MFFN Economic
Development Corporation and Ozhiitaah Developments LP.
Identify and pursue high‑impact opportunities across sectors such as natural
resources, tourism, retail, and technology.
Update the MFFN Economic Development Corporation Board and Ozhiitaah
Developments LP regarding operational and financial matters.
Advise the MFFN Economic Development Corporation Board and Ozhiitaah
Developments LP about resources, industry and regulatory constraints and
opportunities.
Identify the risks of the strategy and suggest systems to manage risks.
Act as the principal spokesperson for the MFFN Economic Development Corporation and Ozhiitaah Developments LP. To oversee interactions within each Organization, the public, government, regulators, joint venture and other business partners, and the media.
Champion innovation while safeguarding cultural and environmental integrity.
Fulfill other duties consistent with the role, as determined by the MFFN Economic
Development Corporation Board and Ozhiitaah Developments LP. Organizational Leadership
Provide guidance and advice to the MFFN Economic Development Corporation and
Ozhiitaah Developments LP management teams.
Design, implement, and maintain an effective organizational structure that supports
the company’s strategic goals and operational efficiency.
Define clear roles, responsibilities, and accountability frameworks across the
organization to ensure alignment and high performance.
Develop and implement foundational corporate policies and procedures—including
financial management, governance, and ethical conduct frameworks—for review and
approval by the Board.
Provide executive oversight of strategic planning, operations, supply chain, financial
performance, marketing, human resources, and overall organizational effectiveness.
Establish and maintain a robust succession planning process for executive
leadership to ensure continuity, stability, and long term organizational resilience.
Governance & Ethical Leadership
Champion responsible, ethical, and effective decision making across the
organization, ensuring executive leaders model the highest standards of
professionalism and integrity.
Foster a corporate culture grounded in ethical practices, accountability,
transparency, and social responsibility.
Establish and maintain strong internal controls, management information systems,
and operational oversight mechanisms that support organizational integrity and
effective risk management.
Ensure all company operations adhere to sound business practices and comply with
applicable laws, regulations, industry requirements, and Board approved
governance policies.
Financial Leadership
Oversee financial reporting and internal controls.
Oversee the raising of capital and the capital markets plan.
Propose capital commitment and expenditure budgets for approval by the MFFN
Economic Development Corporation Board and Ozhiitaah Developments LP.
Develop operating forecasts for revenues, expenditures, operational results and
financial performance
Develop and oversee comprehensive budgets that align with organizational and
community economic development goals.
Implement disciplined financial controls to safeguard community assets and ensure
fiscal responsibility.
Balance enterprise growth with cultural, environmental, and community stewardship
in budget decisions.
Authorize the commitment of funds and corporate resources to fulfill contracts,
transactions and arrangements in the ordinary course of business as approved by
the MFFN Economic Development Corporation Board and Ozhiitaah Developments
LP.
Take reasonable steps to ensure that the MFFN Economic Development
Corporation and Ozhiitaah Developments LP assets are safeguarded and optimized
in the best interests of MFFN.
Provide transparent financial reporting and accountability to the MFFN Economic
Development Corporation Board and Ozhiitaah Developments LP.
Community Stewardship
Willing to plan, participate in, and facilitate community engagement sessions and
community meetings.
Ensure all initiatives reflect cultural values and environmental responsibility.
Build trust through transparent communication and inclusive decision‑making.
Mentor and develop future leaders, creating pathways for succession.
Qualifications
Must attend meetings related to the Services at the times specified by the Marten
Falls First Nation to engage in travel related to the Services where required,
including but not limited to, travel to attend at the Marten Falls First Nation
community and across the country as needed to conduct business for the Nation.
Able to travel and participate with team meetings when needed.
Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (required); advanced degree in Business,
Economics, or related field preferred.
10+ years of executive leadership experience in economic development, corporate
strategy, or enterprise management.
Proven track record of delivering measurable growth, securing investment, and
leading multi‑stakeholder organizations.
Deep understanding of Indigenous governance, regulatory frameworks, and cultural
protocols.
Exceptional executive presence, negotiation skills, and ability to influence at the
highest levels.

Compensation.
Salary of $200-$250K is based on experience and education.
Entitled to vacation pay, general holiday pay and other statutory entitlements in
accordance with the Province of Ontario Employment Standards Act.
