BACKGROUND
YRCAS has embraced many challenges over the past year and is excited to rebuild a governance structure that stimulates dialogue and innovation, improve strategic thinking and decision making, expand networks of dedicated talent, and help the organization better align with the communities we serve.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Live or work in York Region
2. Legal expertise in any of the following areas: governance, regulatory matters, public sector law, labour relations or employment law.
3. Indigenous leaders with expertise in governance, government relations, communications and community relations, and experience in addressing issues related to social determinants of health.
4. Human Resources and Labour Relations Personnel
TIME COMMITMENT
1. At least eight board meetings per year (2 hours each, in person in Newmarket)
2. At least 1 board committee (2 hours each, virtually)
3. Ten-fifteen hours of time per month
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
YRCAS is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors with accountability for the Agency’s mandate, funding, and the safety of children living in York Region. The Board sets the strategic direction for the agency, recruits, supports and evaluates the CEO, and provides governance oversight of day-to-day operations, which includes monitoring the agency’s effectiveness and service outcomes through a range of performance indicators. The Board monitors the use of resources, evaluates and improves its own governance effectiveness. In addition, Board members act in an advocacy capacity by representing the agency to stakeholders in the community, to donors, and to local members of provincial parliament as needed.
