Job duties:
– Examine trees, shrubs, and plants to check for infestation and disease
– Clean and prune trees and shrubs, looking for ways to help the plants with optimal growth and strength
– Apply various solutions, including chemical fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, and pesticides, to repair damaged trees and keep them healthy
– Keep work site clean for our customers, removing all debris and contamination from the worksite after job is complete
– Work at heights to complete all required work duties, and be familiar with fall protection
– Use a variety of hand tools and power tools to complete all required work duties, including shears, chainsaws, and sprayers, and perform minor maintenance work for longevity of these tools
– Follow-up with supervisory staff and customers to ensure duties are performed according to contract and customer preferences

Terms of employment: Temporary, seasonal position with contract length between 4 and 8 months (work season between April and November); approximately 40 hours per week, 5 work days per week, daytime shifts

Education required: Completion of high school is required. Completion of post-secondary training in arboriculture/horticulture (or related fields) may substitute for required work experience.

Work experience required: Minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working in arboriculture or horticulture is required.

Skill requirements: Must have class 5 driver’s license to drive equipment between worksites. Experience towing trailers is a significant asset. Must be comfortable working at heights; must have strong physical stamina to perform manual labour tasks and be able to list at least 30 pounds. Certification to apply pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides may be required for the position, but not required before hiring.

Language requirements: Fluent communication in English is required for the position.
