Wescor Contracting Ltd. works on commercial, industrial, tenant improvement, and custom residential projects involving wall and ceiling systems and related construction activities. The company requires construction trades helpers to support crews by preparing worksites, moving materials, maintaining tools and equipment, and assisting skilled tradespersons with general construction tasks.
Wescor Contracting Ltd. is seeking Apprentice Lathers (Interior Systems Mechanics) to support the installation of interior wall and ceiling systems on commercial, industrial, tenant improvement, and custom residential projects. Candidates may be considered at different apprentice levels based on experience, training, and demonstrated skills. Under the supervision of experienced installers and supervisors, apprentices assist with and perform duties related to layout, framing, drywall installation, suspended ceiling systems, finishing support, material handling, and jobsite safety.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with site setup, material staging, surface preparation, and worksite cleanup.
• Prepare wall and ceiling layouts under supervision and from blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
• Measure, mark, and cut framing materials, drywall sheets, and related products for installation.
• Assist with installing metal stud framing, furring, and related support systems using hand and power tools.
• Position and secure drywall sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists.
• Cut openings in drywall for vents, ducts, piping, and electrical outlets.
• Assist with installing corner beads, trims, and other wall and ceiling system components.
• Support taping, filling, smoothing, and sanding of joints, seams, nail indentations, holes, and cracks.
• Assist with assembling and installing suspended metal ceiling grids and placing ceiling panels.
• Load, unload, move, sort, and store materials, tools, and equipment safely.
• Follow workplace safety procedures, wear personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean and organized jobsite.
• Work cooperatively with supervisors, journeypersons, apprentices, and other trades to complete assigned tasks.
Position Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school.
• Completion of a 3 or 4 year apprenticeship program in drywalling, lathing, or a related trade, or a combination of over 3 years of directly related work experience and some high school, college, or industry courses in drywalling, lathing, or a related field
• Trade-related training or registration in an apprenticeship program is an asset.
• Apprentice level may be determined based on skills, experience, and training.
• Wage placement within the posted range will be determined based on directly related experience, skill level, and qualifications.
