Position Status: Temporary Full-Time (12-month contract)

Description of the Position:
The Manager, Public Relations and Stakeholder Relations provides strategic leadership and is an integral member of the Public Relations team. This role manages day-to-day requests and proactive opportunities for ambassadors to participate in compelling storytelling, brand, marketing communications, media relations and fundraising to inspire the community to support SickKids Foundation.
This Manager is supported by two direct reports, a coordinator and an associate who are dedicated to the ambassador program. This role reports to the Associate Director, Public Relations.
You will:
• Conduct interviews, onboarding, briefing, coaching, cultivation and stewardship of ambassadors
• Researches and cultivates trusting relationships with patient families to deliver fulsome and effective story content for brand campaigns and major fundraising priority areas while ensuring diversity across a range of demographics, relevance, poignancy and accuracy
• Write patient profiles, media materials, and other communications pieces that build profile and demonstrate need and impact of donor support
• Navigates dynamic, sensitive and difficult situations with children and families throughout their health-care journey at SickKids
• Balances the Foundation’s need for a breadth of effective content with the individual needs of each family through strong relationship-building
• Review written materials to ensure accuracy of patient stories and obtain approvals from medical staff to ensure that all public communications are accurate
• Identify new ambassador leads on an ongoing basis to ensure a breadth of diverse and inclusive representation that reflects the Foundation’s core values and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
• Develop and maintain relationships with various levels of hospital staff to encourage them to recommend and secure new patient leads
• Work with agency partners to recruit and integrate ambassadors into productions
• Accompany families, patient ambassadors and represent SickKids Foundation at events, media interviews, film shoots and other activities
• Collaborates with the hospital’s Communications & Public Affairs team as opportunities arise to integrate Ambassador families in Hospital announcements and events
• Assist with responding to time-sensitive issues and complaints on social media that involve patient families
• Works with journalist, editors, producers, influencers and content creators to amplify SickKids stories in various external communications channels
• Media relations support: Pitching and development of media materials such as news releases, media advisories, key messages, spokesperson briefing packages, etc.
• Support PR team with speaking notes development for events involving the Senior Leadership team
Qualifications:
While we know that for any job posting no one candidate will possess the qualifications being sought in equal measure, below is an outline of the qualifications we believe are important for a candidate to bring to the position or for the successful candidate to develop while in the role:
• 5-7 years experience in a communications or community engagement roles
• Post-secondary education in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field
• Proven track record as a skilled leader who motivates high-performing teams
• Excellent writing skills and the ability to conceptualize stories based on trends, real-time events, seasonal campaigns and one-off asks
• Solid understanding of earned media and social media best practices and platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, X), with your finger on the pulse of the ever-evolving digital landscape
• Ability to balance competing deadlines with strong organizational and project management skills
• Knowledge of and experience with Canadian Press style, and industry tools including Cision, Media Relations Rating Points (MRP), Sprout Social
• Ability to build relationships and communicate with internal and external stakeholders of all levels to maintain positive professional relationships
• Ability to demonstrate discretion when working with patient families, hospital staff and donors

Total Compensation Package:
Hiring Salary Range: $81,251.00 – $101,566.00; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $116,803.00. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation, placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the Manager, Public Relations & Stakeholder Relations.
