Trulite Glass & Aluminum Solutions in Vaughan, ON is seeking an experienced EH&S Specialist to join our Glass Fabrication Plant in order to reduce incident rate and maintain the highest safety environment for our employees. Responsible for overseeing all Safety and Loss Control activities at a plant level. Duties include implementing, communicating, and monitoring Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) programs. Ensures compliance to government environmental and safety regulations (OSHA). Conduct employee training, responds to emergencies, assists in accident investigations, and recommends corrective and preventive action. Interface with Corporate Safety Manager, and local agencies on EH&S issues including reports and audits.
Job Responsibilities and Duties include:
• Implement safety programs, which ensure a safe work place for all employees and drives best practice programs throughout all Trulite locations.
• Creates reports to ensure that the facility complies with all Provincial and Federal EPA standards and environmental regulations (air permitting, hazardous waste, etc.)
• Tracks and reports all WSIB Workers’ Compensation issues and develops programs to reduce incident rates.
• Conduct training as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and to improve the focus on safety.
• Work with Branch/ Plant Managers and Supervisors to identify and correct exposures.
• Maintains all OSHA logs and required recordkeeping
• Develops and delivers effective safety educational programs for supervisors and others.
• Perform safety assessments at location and develops corrective actions plans for any audits, citations, or notice of violations.
• Provide guidance and direction to the plant to keep them informed of regulatory changes affecting their business operations.
• Ensures timely and accurate preparation of government and company safety and environmental reports that satisfy reporting requirements.
• Serve as the primary interface with OSHA, and EPA applicable agencies for all compliance and enforcement actions
• Maintains safety and environmental performance metrics, statistics, records, injury reporting, and record keeping systems
• Maintain all safety policies in compliance with regulations and establish effective safety guidelines
• Provide leadership for safety awareness and incentive programs within the plant
• Provide communication on safety through articles, newsletters, signage, etc.
• Participate in new equipment and process to ensure safety assessments are done and safety issues are addressed.
• Maintain existing SDS system and ensure new materials and products have appropriate SDS sheets and training.
• Perform analysis and recommend improvements to equipment and processes to improve safety and prevent accidents.
• Coordinate purchasing of safety equipment, to include PPE.
• Coordinate with Corporate Safety Manager on health and safety issues.
• Maintain EH&S records, to include all industrial hygiene and noise testing.
• Schedule and coordinate regular hazard assessments and safety audits working with the Safety Team
• Coordinate emergency response and first aid system.
Minimum requirements
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent College Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Studies, or a related field and 5+ years of experience in environmental health and safety discipline or related field
• 3 years of experience in Health & Safety field
• Knowledge of and ability to read and interpret OHSA and its regulations, CSA standards and other legislative requirements
• Previous Environmental Health and Safety experience in manufacturing environment
• Customer service oriented, possess tact and judgement in dealing with a diverse group of customers
• Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities with the ability to make decisions under pressure in an environment of rapid change
• Superior analytical skills with the ability to identify problems, resolve issues, mitigate risks, and initiate continuous improvements initiatives
• Organized, detailed oriented, ability to prioritize task, works with a high degree of accuracy and has a strong work ethic
• Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) capable to communicate with all levels of the organization
• Experience with EHS System Management software is an asset
• Computer skills commensurate with job responsibilities (e.g., database design, spreadsheet development, word-processing).
