About us
CMHC exists for a single reason: to make housing affordable for everyone in Canada. We know that housing helps people stay employed, do better in school and participate more fully in society. Housing affordability and a stable housing finance system support a stronger, safer Canada where everyone can live with dignity.
Affordable housing for all is an ambitious goal, and we can’t do it alone. We’re mobilizing the expertise and energy of governments, non-profits, lenders, developers, social entrepreneurs and co-ops to create the future of housing. Canada’s first-ever National Housing Strategy is just one example. Together, we’re removing barriers to ensure that no one is left behind.
We’re committed to working with Indigenous Peoples across the country through:
- Our aspiration that, by 2030, everyone in Canada has a home that they can afford and that meets their needs.
- CMHC’s Indigenous and Northern Housing Solutions team, who works directly with First Nations across Canada to develop creative housing solutions.
- Programs like Section 95’s Non-Profit Rental Housing Program for First Nations on-reserve, and the National Housing Co-Investment Fund, which supports Indigenous peoples.
Our reconciliation journey
CMHC is committed to advancing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and increasing our support to our Indigenous partners.
We are currently working on a reconciliation action plan to review our programs, policies, and business processes to ensure that we consider the unique needs of Indigenous peoples, and address barriers to access of our programs and services.
Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
At CMHC, diversity, equity, and inclusion guide everything we do – both internally and externally:
- It’s our responsibility to fight racism and discrimination against Black and Indigenous people, people of colour, LGBTQ2+, and other marginalized groups. We’re taking concrete actions to eliminate racism and embed equity into our culture, programs, and policies so that they reflect the lived experiences of all Canadians.
- We are proud to serve Canadians in both official languages, and we support our employees’ efforts in pursuing bilingualism through in-house language training.
- We are committed to employment equity and welcome applications from women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and visible minorities.
Working with us
Work at CMHC is never boring. When you combine bright, passionate people with an inspiring mission, careers come to life.
We offer an employee experience where our people have complete autonomy and accountability for their work – which fosters innovation, collaboration and wellness – so we can continue to deliver the results that enhance the lives of all Canadians.
We support our diverse workforce so that they can bring their best selves to work:
- In our Results-Only Work Environment™, you choose when and where you work, giving you more connection and holistic balance with your family.
- Our Indigenous Employee Circle is a community for Indigenous employees and allies to connect, share journeys, ideas, and knowledge.
- Employees can support their communities and other important initiatives through CMHC Gives, our workplace charitable campaign.
