Watershed Monitoring Technician (6 positions)
Full time summer position (April 28, 2025 to August 29, 2025)
Work location: RVCA Headquarters, 3889 Rideau Valley Drive
There is no direct public transportation to the worksite; candidates should ensure they have reliable transportation prior to applying.
About the RVCA:
RVCA is one of 36 conservation authorities in Ontario responsible for furthering the “conservation, restoration, development and management of natural resources in the watershed” under the Conservation Authorities Act. We are dedicated to protecting people and property from natural hazards like flooding and erosion, while conserving the wetlands, forests and natural areas that reduce their impacts.
About the Job
You will be responsible for:
• Assisting in the collection of field data related to watershed health.
• Using established protocols for data collection related to groundwater, surface water, geomorphology, water quality (benthics and chemistry), invasive species, and fish community.
o Field work can involve walking on uneven ground, working in adverse weather conditions, lifting equipment (up to 50lbs).
• Following training, the use, calibration and maintenance of monitoring equipment such as an electrofisher, survey instruments, multi-parameter water quality probe, or flow meters.
• Data entry, analysis and/or presentations
• Upholding a positive image of RVCA within the community.
• Please note:
o Normal work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
o Field work and travel in remote areas of the watershed may result in longer days.
o Evening and weekend work will be required.
Who you are
As the preferred candidate you:
• Are a post-secondary student or recent graduate majoring in biology, ecology, fish and wildlife, environmental studies or other related program.
• Have experience operating and trailering boats and hold a pleasure craft operators card.
• Don’t mind working in adverse weather conditions like heat and rain and you are comfortable working in, on and around water.
Have a flexible schedule and can work overtime as needed during the field season.
• Hold a Class G2 or higher driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
What we offer
• Full time hours (35 hours per week) from the beginning of April to the end of August
• Hourly rate of $17.70
