Canada West Veterinary Specialists is an exciting multi-disciplinary specialty referral practice with a dedicated 24-hour ERCC service. Canada West is one of the only certified Level I Veterinary Trauma centers in Western Canada as designated per the Veterinary Committee on Trauma (VetCOT). We have 7 specialty departments, including Emergency and Critical Care, Neurology, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Anesthesiology, with added services of Rehabilitation therapy and an in-house lab.
Our Oncology department seeks a qualified and experienced Oncologist competent to do the following:
Provide primary care of hospitalized oncology patients.
Formulate chemotherapy treatment plans.
Oversee the administration of chemotherapy to hospitalized patients.
Review and interpretation of diagnostic radiological studies.
Review and interpretation of pathology results.
Responsible for ensuring all clinic staff members are adhering to proper chemotherapy safety procedures.
Formulate post-operative treatment plans following removal of tumours.
Supervise and mentor veterinary technicians and patient care assistants.
Participate in continuing education (lectures, journal clubs, seminars).
Required Skills:
Excellent verbal and written English language skills, especially to a diverse range of audiences and settings.
Must possess excellent communication skills with clients, staff and referring veterinarians and be motivated to grow our Oncology department.
The ability to make decisions, delegate responsibility and achieve results with hospital team members.
Professional comportment and appearance, with excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly, positive attitude.
Work collaboratively with other departments on patient centered care.
Must be self-motivated and have a desire to teach and train doctors and support staff.
Must thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Credentials:
Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine or equivalent degree
Candidates must be board-certified (ACVIM or ECVIM) or residency trained (and eligible to sit for board examination) in Oncology.
Salary & Benefits:
Base salary of $200,000 CDN per annum plus production incentive
