We are a professional animal hospital located in Richmond BC. We provide comprehensive services including but not limited to annual exams for pets, allergy management, dental cleaning and extraction, vaccination and deworming, palliative care, dermatology, cat boarding and a lot more.
The hospital is now looking for a compassionate Veterinarian Assistant to support our veterinarian in providing excellent care to our patients. The candidate must have a passion for caring for animals and excellent customer service skills. This is an important role in bringing comfort to our furry patients and ensuring the smooth running of our facility.
Job Duties:
1.Assist with radiographs and dentistry.
2.Assist with laboratory work.
3.Perform routine care like nail trims and weight checks; apply bandages and splints as directed.
4.Take temperatures, samples, and vitals as requested by the veterinarian; draw up vaccines, flea/tick medication/prevention, etc.
5.Clean, sterilize and maintain examination rooms, operating rooms, surgical equipment, cages and kennels; restock exam rooms with supplies as needed.
6.Comfort and restrain animals in a safe and compassionate manner during examinations and surgical procedures.
7.Help prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, assist in anesthetizing, and under the supervision of the vet maintain patients safely under anesthesia while monitoring their vitals, and help monitor patients during recovery.
8.Administer treatments, medications and vaccinations under the direction of the veterinarian.
9.Feed and water all animals that are currently under our care, ensuring that the dietary instructions provided by the veterinarian are followed.
10.Take accurate notes and medical history of patients, and maintain appropriate medical records for appointments and consultations.
11.Discharge all patients, review the diagnosis, and treatment recommendations, and follow up care with the owner.
12.Advice pet owners on daily nutrition and healthcare.
Qualifications:
1.College diploma in veterinary technology/animal science or equivalency.
2.Proven experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals.
3.Basic understanding of animal behavior and health care.
4.Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
5.Ability to notice changes in animals’ conditions and take appropriate actions.
6.Ability to prioritize tasks and communicate effectively.
7.Patient and caring personality.
8.Attention to detail in order to maintain accurate patient records.
