Duties:
The setting is an ambulatory medical office environment providing outpatient and immediate post-operative patient care – in conjunction with attending health care practitioners (physician/surgeon and RN)
1. Take blood pressure, pulse, temperature and record fluid (urine) output and document in chart.
2. Collect urine specimens as required by MD/RN for transport to hospital laboratory.
3. Carry messages, reports, lab requisitions between the community office and hospital.
4. Administer, in emergencies, first aid to injured or ill patients in accordance with scope of competency.
5. Tidy up and prepare office examination rooms between patients for procedures.
6. Maintenance of office equipment and supplies – including sterilization and setting up and operating diagnostic tools and equipment under MD/RN supervision.
7. Taking and maintaining inventory of supplies.
8. Accompanying patients between office and hospital ambulatory care unit.
Employment Requirements:
1. Completion of a personal support worker or nursing aid program
OR
Completion of secondary school and equivalency of at least 1 year of Canadian postgraduate studies PLUS prior work experience in a similar role AND completion of 8 months on the job training (which will be provided)
2. Completion of a first aid and basic life support (BLS) course is mandatory
3. Unrestricted class 5 driver’s licence
