Montship Inc. has an opening for the position of Disbursement Accounting Technician in its Halifax office, on a full-time basis.
The main duties of Disbursement Accounting Technician are the handling of the disbursement processes within the maritime industry. This includes but not limited to, overseeing disbursements, ensuring compliance with industry standards and contracts, maintaining vessel schedules, preparing various financial reports, and collecting past-due accounts.
Responsibilities:
· Preparation, distribution and reconciliation of Disbursement Accounts
· Preparation of various reports (Revenue and Ship Charges, Agency fees, Service Coordination Fees, GSA, Equipment, Commission, etc.)
· Preparation of Supplementary Accounts
· Verification of invoices for accuracy
· Payment and proper allocation of invoices per vessel/voyage in Accounting System
· Maintenance of vessel schedule
· Month-end closing
· Submission of advanced funding request to Principal
· Journal preparation and entry
· Freight Remittance
· Reconciliation of the accounts monthly (Sub ledger and Current)
· Maintenance of healthy cash flow
· Handling Principal’s requests and inquiries and dealing with vendors
Qualifications:
College or University degree in Accounting or in a related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience in Disbursement accounting, preferably in the maritime industry
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Very good computer skills
Strong English skills, oral and written.
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of the marine shipping industry would be an asset
