Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, and in collaboration with the leadership team, the Director of Mental Health Programs is responsible for leading the agency’s initiatives with respect to planning, delivery and evaluation of mental health related programs to support children, youth and adults.
Duties & Responsibilities
Leads the implementation of SHARE’s mental health focused programs (e.g. counselling services for children, youth and adults, substance use services for youth and adults, substance use prevention services, supports for children and families involved with the Ministry of Child and Family Development Social Workers, etc.), including collaborating with community partners, hiring and supervising relevant staff, program and budget oversight and management, project communications, contract management and reporting to funders, etc.
Ensures that appropriate and effective operational support and supervision is provided to staff in the delivery of its current programs as well as any new initiatives within SHARE.
Provides strong leadership to ensure that clients have the required services within the agency and in the community, when necessary.
Builds and maintains positive relationships with funders (e.g. Ministry of Child and Family Development, Fraser Health Authority, Federal Government), and ensures programs meet all reporting and regulatory requirements of funders
Cooperates with the management team in: operationalizing strategic priorities; program planning; compliance with all standards and policies; budget oversight and management; and collaboration with community stakeholders to secure services for our clients;
Collaborates with SHARE’s management team to ensure that the organizational vision is carried out in service delivery systems that subscribe to the strategic direction of the organization as set by the Board of Directors and the CEO.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of emerging trends and development in services and programs related to agency client groups including understanding of: child protection, the counselling professions, suicidal ideation, risk and prevention, substance use and addiction, mental wellness supports, etc. and the provincial justice system, child welfare, addiction services, and health systems and government support services for children, youth and adults in the Lower Mainland.
Proposes and implements new initiatives; develops and implements action plans; conducts performance evaluations; and ensures that reports on all service and program areas are delivered within the timelines required.
Strives to continue the tradition of SHARE’s service excellence and inspires staff while leading by example.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s or a Master’s in a related discipline (equivalent work experience and training may be considered in the absence of post-secondary education).
At least 10 years of relevant work experience in areas of community, social and/or health programs and services.
Demonstrate knowledge of the day-to-day operations of child/youth/adult mental health programs and services (e.g. addiction services, child protection services, counselling supports) in a non-profit is essential.
Expertise in strategic and financial planning and human resources management.
Demonstrated successes in community building and partnerships.
Extensive working knowledge of all statues as they relate to government funded initiatives and programs.
Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and to build and manage relationships.
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience; current annual salary starting at $120,000.
Benefits include 100% employer paid health and other benefits, including: life, long-term disability and extended health and dental; four (4) weeks annual vacation; enrolment in the Municipal Pension Plan.
