2nd Cook – Thunder Bay Contract

WHAT’S THE JOB?

As the Second Cook, you are responsible for assisting the First Cook in the preparation of all menu items and the overall kitchen operations. 

*This is a safety-sensitive position with Drug and Alcohol testing required* 

The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities:

• All meals and accommodations are provided 
• Travel is provided to and from the site locations from designated locations in the Thunder Bay and surrounding area
• Private room with cable television 
• Access to Wi-Fi 
• Access to laundry facilities and detergents 
• Access to a gym and common areas 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Meet daily with the First Cook to discuss menu preparation and production strategy 
• Assist the First Cook in the preparation of all menu items as needed 
• Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications 
• Can be responsible for preparing and serving hot breakfast 
• Replenish desserts and condiment stations as required 
• Assist in the cleanliness and maintenance of the kitchen and serving areas
• Can be responsible for assisting with baking 
• Practice correct food handling guidelines and storage procedures

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

• Large-scale cooking in camp settings, banquet halls and/or hotels is a strong asset
• Current Food Safe certification is preferred 
• Current First Aid level 1 certification is an asset 
• Ability to commit to a 2 week on/2 week off rotation 
• A team-player who is committed to providing client satisfaction 
• Knowledge of basic computer skills for the completion of online learning modules for training 
• Capacity to successfully perform drug and alcohol testing requirements 
• Must have valid government issued photo ID for travel to site 
• Ability to handle the following physical demands:
  • Lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 lbs 
  • Climb ladders or stairs 
  • Stand, walk, squat, kneel or sit according to task for extended periods of time 
  • Perform repetitive hand work requiring full use of both hands
  • Perform work with arms at full length 
  • Work with arms above shoulder height
