Position: Business Development Sales Professional

We seek an energetic and results-driven Business Development Sales Professional to expand our client base, drive new business opportunities, and apply their proven track record of successfully selling sustainability, climate and/or energy efficiency solutions and services. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent initiative and communication skills. Reporting
This role reports to the Vice President, Business Development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Identify New Business Opportunities
Source and develop a pipeline of opportunities by developing a prospect list of leads with target sectors. You will be expected to prospect for new business by:
o Outbound calling and emailing;
o Leveraging digital outreach channels;
o Attending industry events; and
o Networking.
2. Develop Sales Strategies and Plans
• Create and execute tailored sales strategies within target sectors to meet and exceed sales targets and drive business growth.
• Lead solution and/or process design with partners, clients, internal staff to meet/address prospective client needs.
• Monitor sales performance against targets, track and analyze key metrics and report monthly to senior management.
• Provide accurate forecasts of sales activity and market trends.
3. Sales Pitches, Presentations & Proposals
• Lead the development and delivery of sales presentations to decision-makers, demonstrating how our solutions meet their unique needs.
• Work closely with internal teams (marketing, proposal development, operations) to align sales strategies, materials, presentations and proposals with brand rules and standards to enable successful delivery of projects,
services and customer satisfaction.
• Represent the company at industry events, trade shows and conferences to build brand presence and generate leads.
4. Client Relationship Management
• Build and maintain strong relationships and regular communication with key decision makers in client and partner organizations.
• Cultivate long-term relationships with clients to drive repeat, no-bid expansions/renewals and new project opportunities.
• Manage client expectations throughout the sales process, from initial contact to post-sale, ensuring smooth transitions and successful program implementation.
5. Stay Informed on Industry Trends
• Stay updated on local and national industry trends, policies, technologies and use this knowledge to influence and guide sales strategies and client solution design.
• Actively monitor changes in policies, government programs, and funding incentives to inform sales strategies.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in business, Environmental Science or related field.
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in sales or business development, preferably within the energy efficiency, sustainability, climate or related sectors.
• Proven experience and success in B2B sales, lead generation, opportunity development, client relationship management and closing $100K+ deals in a complex consultative sales environment.
• Pipeline management and providing monthly/quarterly sales forecasts.
• Strong skills in delivering persuasive sales pitches and conducting sales presentations to executives and decision-makers.
• Familiarity with energy efficiency technologies, sustainability solutions, and government incentive programs (e.g., rebates, tax credits).
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated with a proactive, goal-oriented approach to sales and business development.
• Proficiency in MS Office and CRM software tools (Microsoft CRM would be an asset).
• Willingness to travel to meet clients and attend industry events.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience selling energy efficiency services/solutions, sustainability services, or related technologies
• Familiarity with climate or energy regulations, rebate programs and incentives across Canada
• Established network of contacts within the energy, climate or sustainability sectors
