BOOKKEEPER, Part-Time
Established by the Manitoba Indian Brotherhood in 1982 as a non-profit research organization, the T.A.R.R. Centre specializes in research related to Treaty Rights, Treaty Land Entitlement, Claims Policy Reform, First Nation History and Land Claims. The T.A.R.R Centre undertakes claims research and development on behalf of its member First Nations and researches and develops specific claims such as reserve land surrenders, reserve land alienation, the administration of Indian Trust funds and Treaty land entitlements. The T.A.R.R. Centre also monitors developments in contemporary First Nations issues such as the application of rights guaranteed in the Treaties, case law on related issues, Indian Act and claims policy reform. The T.A.R.R Centre is Indigenous-led, and recognizes and respects the interconnectedness of all of creation. Relationships, culture, and ceremony are foundational to our work.
The T.A.R.R. Centre of Manitoba is currently seeking a Bookkeeper for our Brokenhead Band Office.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Calculate and prepare payroll
Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts (i.e., accounts payable) using manual and computer bookkeeping procedures
Maintain general ledgers and financial statements
Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
3 years minimum
Working with First Nations and/or Band councils is a definite asset.
Preparing cash flow projections
Another asset – working knowledge of GST tax rules and regulations.
Proficiency in MS Office Professional and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
College/CEGEP
Familiar with accounting practices
Accounting software for bookkeeping (e.g., Sage)
