JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
Automotive and Heavy Vehicle Partsperson at BC Hydro identifies vehicle parts and supplies, issues vehicle supplies, parts, and shop tools. Accepts and records deliveries of materials and maintains the stock room. The BC Hydro fleet consists of 3,000 vehicles including passenger vehicles (e.g. cars, SUVs, passenger vans), light vehicles (e.g. pick-up trucks, commercial vans, flat deck trucks), heavy vehicles e.g. man lifts, digger derricks, crane trucks), mobile machines (e.g. fork lifts, self-propelled man lifts) and trailers (e.g. pole trailers, reel trailers, utility trailers). Fleet Services delivers the service via a main maintenance garage, satellite workshops and mobile work shops. As an apprentice in this trade, you would:
* Work with a Journey person to identifies automotive parts and supplies, issues automotive supplies, parts and shop tools
* Accepts and records deliveries of materials and maintains the stock room
* Arranges for shipping of materials, prepares way bills, delivery slips and other records
* May be required to pick up or deliver parts and operate a forklift
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have:
* Graduated from high school with the following courses: English 12, Math 11 and Physics 11 / Science & Technology 11 (or equivalents).
* Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and familiarity with industrial tools/equipment
* Truck and/or automotive experience preferred
* Normal color vision
* A minimum of a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license or equivalent
* Forklift certified or ability to obtain forklift certification
* Strong interpersonal skills to deal with both internal and external customers

Apprentices earn 75% of the full trade rate with further increases during the apprenticeship. The apprentice pay rate is $30.41; upon graduation as a journeyperson, the rate is $40.55. THE PROGRAM The Automotive and Heavy Vehicle Partsperson apprenticeship involves 36 months of on-the-job, working with auto and heavy vehicle parts and classroom training. Graduation from the program will include successful completion of the Parts Technician red seal examination.
THE FUTURE Graduated apprentices can apply on any vacancies for Automotive and Heavy Vehicle Partsperson within BC Hydro.
THE LOCATION During your apprenticeship, you will be assigned to Surrey garage. You will be required to do 2 to 3 rotations in alternate headquarters across the province for up to 2-3 weeks each during your apprenticeship.
* A condition of employment for this job once becoming a journeyperson is that you maintain your Driver’s License: Class 5

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.
IBEW/Field – No option to work from home
Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.
Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
